🧠 Championing Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Martin Wilson School, we understand that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and supported. That’s why this term we’ve launched several new initiatives to promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Every Friday, pupils now take part in “Feel Good Fridays” — a series of activities aimed at reducing stress and building resilience. From yoga and journalling to outdoor mindfulness and art therapy, these sessions are helping children to pause, reflect, and connect with their emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

We have also introduced Wellbeing Ambassadors in Years 5 and 6 — trained pupil leaders who help peers manage playground conflicts, organise friendship games, and signpost support when someone is feeling overwhelmed. Their leadership is already having a positive impact throughout the school.

During Mental Health Awareness Week, we held themed assemblies, ran kindness challenges, and invited parents to a workshop on supporting emotional wellbeing at home. The session was well received and included practical advice on routines, sleep, and talking about feelings with children.

We are proud to be building a school culture where mental health is treated with the same care and importance as physical health — ensuring our pupils are happy, healthy and ready to thrive.
