🌱 Growing Minds: Our New Outdoor Learning Garden

We’re delighted to announce the opening of our Outdoor Learning Garden — a peaceful, purposeful space designed to inspire curiosity and support learning in nature. What started as a proposal by our School Council has blossomed into a stunning resource, thanks to the support of parents, local businesses, and community volunteers.

The garden features raised beds for growing vegetables, a wildlife pond, and a sensory pathway filled with fragrant herbs and textured surfaces. Children are already planting carrots, lettuce and strawberries, while butterflies and frogs are beginning to make their homes in the pond area.

This term, classes have started using the garden to enrich learning across subjects. Year 2 measured plant growth in a maths investigation, while Year 4 composed poetry inspired by the sound of birdsong and scent of lavender. The garden has also become a haven for mindfulness activities, small group discussions, and nature walks.

At Martin Wilson School, we believe in learning beyond the classroom walls — and this space is a wonderful example of how our pupils are growing, not just academically, but as curious, compassionate individuals.
