Reading Week at Martin Wilson School was nothing short of enchanting. From Monday to Friday, our corridors were filled with excitement and imagination as every class immersed themselves in a different genre and explored the joy of storytelling. Reception and Year 1 focused on fairy tales and traditional tales from around the world, creating beautiful story maps and acting out favourite characters. Years 2 and 3 journeyed into adventure stories and illustrated fiction, while the older pupils tackled gripping mysteries and historical novels.
A highlight of the week was a visit from local children’s author Sarah Moffatt, who led inspiring workshops and story-sharing sessions. Her talk sparked real enthusiasm, with pupils across the school writing their own stories and comics. Year 5 even collaborated on a class novel, which is now proudly displayed in our school library.
The week concluded with our very first ‘Pyjamas and Pages’ evening. Families returned to school dressed in their comfiest nightwear for a bedtime story session with hot chocolate and biscuits. Teachers created cosy corners, complete with fairy lights and cushions, for pupils and parents to enjoy shared reading time. It was a truly magical end to a week that reminded us all of the power of books to connect and inspire.
